DESIGNER PARTICIPATION

EVENT CONCEPT & SETUP:

Austin Fashion Week is the longest-running fashion event in Texas and the 5th largest Fashion Week concept in the United States.

Our focus has been and always will be on emerging designers interested in launching or growing a brand for the Texas audience. We do this through group shows to highly engaged audiences in order to help keep costs down for the designer or label.

Austin Fashion Week 2021, like most events in the world, will look a little different. This year, we will present a higher volume of shows (approximately 12-16 instead of the normal 3) to smaller physical audiences. This will allow for a more intimate show experience and create opportunities for social distancing should that be necessary when the events occur this December. While we hope things will be “back to normal” by the Austin Fashion Week dates, we are going to be steadfast in not making assumptions. Instead, we will continue to move forward cautiously and meet all attendees’ needs, regardless of circumstance. We understand everyone’s comfort levels are different and we will do our best to accommodate.

All shows will run from approximately 11:00 am – 5:00 pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, December 3-5 in an outdoor area with our partners at The Domain. If demand exists, we will add shows on Thursday, December 2.

Each show will feature 5-8 labels presenting collections on the runway and will run approximately 40-45 minutes. Labels have the option of showing between 3-25 looks depending on their participation level (listed below).

Some show themes will be pre-determined and some will not. We will group designers based on the best thematic fits and to ensure we meet everyone’s schedule as well as possible. This won’t be announced until after the application deadline is complete and all designers have been selected.

All in-person shows will be live-streamed to a ticketed audience as well. So if you have guests that are unable to travel to Austin (or couldn’t get tickets to the show), they will have an option to purchase lower-priced tickets to view the virtual live shows.

If you are a designer or label that would like to reach the Austin Fashion Week audience but are unable to travel to Austin, we are creating a virtual-only runway show experience as well. That option is listed below in the application process.

Austin Fashion Week is committed to diversity — in all forms. As a designer, you should understand that in addition to “traditional” runway models, we will also feature plus models, non-binary or transgender models, models with disabilities and models of all ethnicities and races. If you have any issues showing your collection utilizing non-traditional models, you must note that in your application.

In addition to model diversity, we are committed to ensuring that designers and labels have access to Austin Fashion Week regardless of circumstance. We will ensure that a significant number of the brands showing during Austin Fashion Week are BIPOC-owned or operated. We recognize that access to many fashion weeks is limited for BIPOC-owned brands and we will not be one of those. This also goes for women-owned or LGBTQ+-owned businesses. That said, ALL designers and labels must meet all thresholds for participation and all brands will be judged equally and fairly.

APPLICATION PROCESS & DEADLINES:

Applications to participate as a runway designer in Austin Fashion Week 2021 are due by October 15, 2021 or until all spots have been filled. Applications will be reviewed in the order they are received, so it is beneficial to complete your application early. There are no fees to apply.

The Fashion By Texas Advisory Council will review each application and provide each brand with a yes, no or waitlist answer. Those that receive a yes answer will be placed under contract and billed for participation. All fees are due no later than November 1, 2021. NOT ALL APPLICANTS WILL BE CURATED TO SHOW.

PARTICIPATION FEES & OPTIONS:

Upon approval by the Advisory Council, you will be sent a contract to be executed by both parties. Once under contract, you may not be released for any reason and you will be billed for any participation fees due. The fee may be split into multiple payments but final fees are due by November 1, 2021. If you’d like to make payments instead of paying the full amount at once, please just let us know your plan and we are happy to accommodate.

You may choose any of the following options:

  • 3 Looks: $300
  • 4-9 Looks: $500
  • 10-12 Looks: $750
  • 13-16 Looks: $1000
  • 16-20 Looks: $1500
  • 20+ Looks:┬áMay be accommodated, but please email us to determine the best fit prior to your application.
  • VIRTUAL ONLY: submit a video of your collection to be promoted during Austin Fashion Week. Video may not exceed 6 minutes. $250.

FEES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

  • Professional, diverse models cast by Austin Fashion Week
  • Professional hair and makeup for your model lineup
  • Complete back of house production including dressers, runners, and more
  • End of runway images with promotional rights for each look you show
  • Profile page with links to your site and social media on the Austin Fashion Week website.
  • 2 premium seated tickets for your show for guests. Other guests may purchase tickets.
  • FOR VIRTUAL ONLY designers: you have the opportunity to submit a video that will be posted to the Fashion By Texas Youtube page and will be promoted as a “virtual fashion show” as part of Austin Fashion Week. It will debut between December 2-5 as well.
